A Message from our President
I would like to invite you to the 83rd Annual Mudgeeraba Show.
This year has, for many family and friends, been a year they would wish to forget but through the hard times it has again become apparent what a strong caring community we live in.
A few years ago when the Mudgeeraba Show was badly affected by weather and poor attendances, I was humbled by the sympathies extended to the committee by complete strangers who understood our disappointment and helplessness at the hands of Mother Nature. This year saw Mother Nature in full fury. Mudgeeraba Show Society decided we need to step up and help out where we could. This idea became reality when the Mudgeeraba community adopted the community of Laidley.
Laidley was host for the recent Show Societies conference and extended a warm welcome to us when we visited. The tables turned when Laidley was affected by the Tsunami which saw the devastation of many of the communities in that area. A call was sent out through the grapevine and a tiny article in the local paper. In the space of 24 hours the community had gathered enough goods to f ll a 12m semi trailer to bursting. (see the pics in this schedule). The compassion shown by members of the public was overwhelming. From the young fellow who came and helped me stack boxes while Mum and big sis were doing the horses, to the couple who visited me at work and handed me an envelope with a sizable amount of cash. From the older lady who discretely handed me the contents of her wallet to the couple who drove from Southport with enough crockery for 45 people and a car full of near new goods, and then with tears in their eyes, hugged me f rmly and thanked me for allowing them to contribute. The response was simply overwhelming. Mudgeeraba you should be SO PROUD of your community.
As President of the Society I wish to pass on the thanks we received from the people of Laidley and surrounding areas. I also need to thank the volunteers who gave up their time to load and unload the truck. Also to Ken Faulkner Transport who donated and then loaded and unloaded the semi trailer for us.
So the community has reason this year to celebrate our spirit with the annual Show.
We have listened to our visitors over the years and we would like to think that we have developed a blue print for what makes the Mudgeeraba Show the unique success it has become. We have been fortunate to have on board some fantastic sponsors who seem to share our ideals. Gold Coast City Council is again our major sponsor and we thank Councillor Ted Shepherd for his continued assistance and guidance. We have this year gained new major sponsors with RACQ Insurance, Bell Central Shopping Centre and Bendigo Bank also contributing to our events. The Society wishes to thank these companies and also the many many smaller companies and individuals who have continued to support the event and in doing so allow the Society to present to you a fantastic country show.
This year we have more highlights crammed into our grounds for the weekend. Our two new pavilions are fully renovated and bursting with exhibits. The Ted Shepherd Pavilion on the east side is the new home for our Education display. Take the time to browse through the entries from our local schools. We have some very talented children in our area and I am sure you will f nd yourself smiling at the efforts on display. The other new Helen Ripper Pavilion on the western side of the ground has been dedicated as Women’s Wonderland. So if you are female or just wanting to get in touch with your feminine side take a wander through the displays in this pavilion!!!
The Steven Boyle Pavilion has been renovated to make it more visitor friendly and allow easier access to the popular Woodturner’s display and Woodchop Arena. The Heritage Village and Country Music stage will take you back to a time before mobile phones and internet. Watch the Racing Pigs fresh from the stage of “Australia’s Got Talent” and have a cuppa with the Museum Mob.
The ground will be full of sites wishing to have a chat and show you what makes them unique. The cattle will be competing on Saturday and the Equestrian events continue all weekend. The popular Ute Muster will be “Testosterone Heaven” and the girls can hold their heads high with the “Chick’s Ute” category always hotly contested with some brilliant vehicles entered.
The main stage this year is a mix of local schools, dance schools, Pet parade, Show Princesses, Martial Arts. This year we have been fortunate enough to be able to present to our guests the fantastic talents of “The Twine” and “Leaping Lizards Bush Band”. These groups are not to be missed. Of course our Night Programme is another not to be missed. The Woodchoppers are back to vie for the “State of Origin” trophy (go Qld!!!) and the Dunny Derby and Haystackers are out to somehow topple the supreme champion team from Access Air. The trick riders will be there and the Horse will again race the Motorbike. And the Lion Dance will take us to the fireworks finalé.
To end my message I must thank all the members, family and friends of the Mudgeeraba Show Society who volunteer their time. To those who have given the whole year and to those who are volunteering for the f rst time, be proud that you have contributed to the Best Little Show around and be assured that your efforts are appreciated by every person who enters through our gates.
My committee and I wish to invite you all to attend our 83rd Mudgeeraba Show!!!!!
Helen Ripper (President)
Please be respectful of all our helpers, they are here on a volunteer basis. Any disrespect towards them will not be tolerated and you will be removed or denied entry.
Acknowledgement
On behalf of the Show Society, we would wish to most sincerely thank those people who gave their time and effort to support us in the manning of the various stalls and booths, our ladies for the catering, in preparation of the Pavilion, to the Judges and Stewards of the various events and competitions, and those who gave donations of money, goods or open orders. Without this support our Annual Show could not be staged. This Schedule of events and prizes was made possible by the sponsors advertised throughout this schedule. We thank them one and all and recommend their products and services to you.
