PRESIDENTS MESSAGE 2009

On behalf of the management and members of the Mudgeeraba Show Society I would like to extend an invitation to join us at our 81st Annual Mudgeeraba Show.

We all have our fingers crossed that we won't have a repeat of the "Mud Show" of last year. While the weather of last year was unkind to us, the support of the thousands who donned raincoats, gumboots and happy faces was amazing. My sincere thanks go to those who attended and to those who offered the kind thoughts. The feedback we received from the community was overwhelming. It supports the society's belief that our show is truly a well loved community event.

This year the society has seen the departure of Sharon Bedford as Secretary and the election of Kylie Holzinger into her huge shoes. Kylie is busy marking her mark as Show Secretary for the years ahead. My thanks go to Shazz for her efforts over the past five years and also to Kyle for taking on difficult job.

The show this year is a huge event. We have of course included all the favourites. We have the woodchopping, the horse events, the pavilion packed with school exhibits and entries from our talented community. Your family can browse through the displays from our community groups and visit one of the many local businesses represented on the grounds. We have the heritage alley busting with all the exhibits which reflect our past. The poultry pavilion will be a hive of activity and flurry of feather again with John Perry's team presenting another excellent display of competitive poultry.

The Grand parade on Saturday is promising to be our biggest yet and it is something you should plan your visit around. Sunday will be chrome lovers heaven with our Ute Muster again taking pride of place. The "Blokes Brigade" of Byron, Clinton and Kim have promised a bumper showing of Beaut Utes! The competition this year down at the cattle yards will be enormous. The Mudgeeraba Show has been chosen as the venue for the State Jersey Cattle show. Not a bad achievement for a show which is not in a dairy cattle area. My thanks go to Des and Sue Kurz as well as Ted and Sue Shepherd for their efforts in getting our show recognised at this level. The activity of the state judging along with the Beef Cattle and the Sheep will delight visitors young and old.

Our "Night Event" will be jam packed with different type of entertainment. We will have the favourites as well as a couple of special performers who will have you shaking your head in amazement. Remember to get your seat early for a good vantage point and remember the warm clothes!!!

In closing I wish to thank our major sponsors Gold Coast City Council, Elders Real Estate, Norco Milk and Nerang RSL for their much appreciated support of our show. The contribution of these and all those acknowledged in this schedule are invaluable. Also my sincere thanks to the members, family and friends who assemble each year to present .....
