We held our 2023 Mudgeeraba Show Society Volunteer Awards on October 23 in the Bill Deacon Pavilion.
Together, we have had an outstanding year. We have accomplished so much and have ticked many things off our ‘to do’ list. We have been proud to welcome a number of new volunteers and members this year and we have again welcomed back members that have returned after many years of absence.
We are all passionate about our Show and our community. We give our time and energy with nothing expected in return. We have life members that have given over 40 years of Service to
our organisation and some who are just 4 weeks into their volunteering with us.
We celebrate all of our volunteers; we champion those who give back to their community. We are grateful for those that put others before themselves. It is also important to recognise that every now and again, we have some incredibly special people that consistently go above and beyond expectations. They go without fanfare; they do not ask for anything in return and they continue to give back. We do not take these people for granted.
We take time to appreciate a few special people in the Mudgeeraba Show Society Family. Thank you to all our volunteers, and to those who have been recognized, we extend our deepest gratitude and congratulations.
Our 2023 Mudgeeraba Agricultural Show Volunteer of the Year is Mr Rob Cady. Rob travelled from Singapore to volunteer with us for two full weeks at Showtime. Rob and his wife Doreen divide their time between the Gold Coast and Singapore and travel extensively in between. Rob first joined us a volunteer in 2021 and was a great support to many of us then. His ‘can do’ attitude and cheerful demeanor is always welcome, and no task is too small or too difficult. Rob was often one of the first people on the grounds and one of the last to leave at Showtime and he was dependable, capable, and enthusiastic. We thank Rob so very much for his dedication and look forward to having him return in 2024. Rob had this to say on his win… ‘I am very honoured, humbled, and grateful to receive this acknowledgement for my efforts, but I believe as you know I see it as just doing what I saw needed doing or helping with for the good of the show and all of us involved in its success.’
Our 2023 Volunteer of the Year is Mr. Peter Gardner. Peter is the mainstay of the office, and we rely on Peter to manage the day-to-day maintenance of the grounds and its assets. Peter is
here on the weekends, unbeknownst to many, emptying bins and keeping the grounds litter and clutter free. He has been instrumental in the clean out of the storage sheds and poultry pavilion. He runs errands, organising signage, engineering tasks and asset receipt and repair. We are indebted to Peters no fuss attitude and collaborative approach.
We would like to acknowledge one of our newest regular volunteers who has become part of the office family. The 2023 Rookie Volunteer of the Year is Gillian Young. Gillian has quickly become one of our office stalwarts playing an instrumental role in the administration of sites at our 2023 Show. Gillian has been a great support to Anne Davis who has managed the site applications and enquiries year after year and in 2023, the site application and processing was smoother than ever. Gillian has also been involved in the recent review and rewriting of our 2024 site applications and has begun to dip her toes into the graphic design world of Canva. We thank
Gillian for her enthusiasm, dedication, reliability, and can-do attitude. We look forward to working with Gillian in 2024.
We acknowledge the following volunteers with Certificates of Appreciation. These volunteers have given their time and effort without fuss or fanfare. They have supported us, been passionate about their roles and have continuously put up their hands to help. Whether it be at Showtime, or during the year, we thank you for your unwavering commitment to the Mudgeeraba Show Society.
