To our Mudgeeraba Show Society Members & Community,
Firstly, I hope that you had the opportunity to spend time with your family and friends on Christmas day and if you were on the Gold Coast, I trust that you have been supported through the days that have followed.
For many, Christmas night and the days since have been filled with challenges, hardship and bewilderment. We felt the sheer strength of the confirmed tornado on Christmas night taking trees, power, roads, phones and internet with it and we have waded through the waters of the seasonal deluge in the days that followed. It has been a tough start to 2024.
Throughout all of this though have been amazing stories of courage, community and caring.
We have seen our beloved community open their homes and businesses for people doing it tough, we’ve seen hot food, showers and power being offered to those without and people going above and beyond to help others get back on their feet. With sheer exhaustion, but an ever-present determination, our community groups and emergency service personnel have supported and advocated for one another and we are so very grateful to you all. We hope that you will get to spend the time with your friends and family that you all deserve as we head into recovery.
Of course, everyone knows that, on occasion, here at the Showgrounds we put the ‘MUD’ into Mudgeeraba and the Showgrounds haven’t come through this weather event unscathed either. We’ll band together with our neighbours, the Mudgeeraba Pony & Hack Club and The Gold Coast Lighthorse Education Museum and as we always do, we’ll put things back where they belong, we’ll rake up the mess, mop the floors, hose out the sheds and put the fences back up. We’ll draw on our local community of members and wonderful volunteers to get us through our own challenges and have our beautiful 13 acres of greenspace looking their best before you know it. It’s a very big job and one massive clean up, there is a lot of debris and damage, but we’ll get through. We have checked with our longest serving members, some that have been with us for over 40 years, and no one remembers the water ever getting this high.
Of course, there is always light at the end of the tunnel and our beloved Mudgeeraba Agricultural Show will be back in June. We are excited to tell you all what we have planned. Keep your eyes on our socials and website.
Take Care everyone and to those very special people in our community…. THANK YOU!
